Ramanujan Tau function is an arithmetic function whose amazing properties were discovered and conjectured by Ramanujan and later proved partially by Mordell completely by Deligne. In this talk we would be talking about the proof of Mordell. We would show how Tau function naturally relates to discriminant of an elliptic curve which plays an important role in study of elliptic functions. Computation of $\tau(p)$ for a prime $p$ is currently at least as hard as computation of class number of a binary quadratic form, hence its an interesting computational problem.
